About the exhibition
Presented as part of The Edit Edit, a group exhibition exploring editing as a human gesture of connection in an increasingly fragmented world, Symbiosis brought together four photographic works exploring the relationship between womanhood and the natural world.
Inspired by the landscapes of her Swiss upbringing, Marie Pichonnaz draws on ecofeminist perspectives to reconsider the historical association between women and nature. Through the symbolic framework of water, fire, air and earth, the series brings together fragmented emotional states, experiences and ways of being. Nature becomes a space through which these fragments can be reconnected, revealing strength, vulnerability, intuition and transformation as interdependent forces.
The exhibition featured three A1 photographic prints alongside a suspended textile installation. Moving beyond the traditional photographic frame, the flowing fabric introduced movement, transparency and a tactile dimension to the work, allowing the image to interact with its surrounding space.
Echoing the exhibition’s reflection on the connections between fragments, the installation extended Symbiosis into a physical experience, inviting viewers to reconsider photography as both an image and a material presence.
